Hive of Inspiration
If you have ancestors in Worcestershire, you have probably already come across this state-of-the-art facility in the centre of Worcester itself. It brings together the City library, University library and the county’s archive and archaeology section that holds 12 miles of original records.
The name ‘The Hive’ reflects the purposeful activity and sense of community that the development, opened in 2012, helps to create. It also reflects the building’s appearance, with its distinctive golden ‘honeycomb’ cladding.
Even if you have no connection with the county, it is well worth visiting The Hive’s own website. You can then explore an excellent overview of how previously separate services were brought together, becoming more accessible to visitors both in person and online. At a time of pressure on budgets, The Hive’s approach signposts the way ahead for many other places.
